Phulkari, literally translates into ‘Flower Work’ has a history etched in the culture of Punjab, India. There is a references of Phulkari in Punjabi folklore- Heer and Ranjha, Vedas, Mahabharat & Guru Granth Sahib. It gained its popularity after 15th Century. Phulkari has an evenly distributed geometric motifs and exquisite panel borders embroidered on the fabric. It was believed that the embroidery work was always done pointing the needle’s tip in the direction opposite of the embroiderer.
